The original concept behind the development of Coop Blackletter was to create a friendly blackletter typeface. The design is a synthesis of the rounded, affable features of Cooper Black with the underlying composition of your average Fraktur and as such, the name follows suit: Cooper Blackletter.
The glyphs combine the softness and weight of Cooper Black with the calligraphic contrast of a Fraktur. Some liberty was taken with the representation of certain glyphs to reduce the complexity the of their appearance as well as to aid in legibility when in use.
It’s kinda chunky, soft around the edges, and not entirely unreadable.
Designed under guidance from Tal Leming of Type Supply.
